Native Silver

This unusual example of dendritic silver from Michigan, is a rare find. It is made up of intergrown elongated silver crystals up to 1 cm long in dendritic growth. It formed in a thin fissure amongst Nonesuch shale. Some remnants remain of the black shale. Typically when specimens are found in a seam of shale, the silver is totally flat and not as well crystallized as this example. The silvers have an attractive reddish patina.
