Fossil clam that has been replaced by opal. The clam is natural on one side on polished on the other revealing the play of colors. Most opal clams I see (when you can find one) look more like a piece of opal carved into the shape of a clam, polished on all sides with no trace of the original shell surface remaining. This one is nice because you can see clearly the natural surfaces of the former shell and you also have the bright colors of the polished opal.
