Liddicoatite

Cut and polished slice of Liddicoatite (a species of Tourmaline) from old finds in Madagascar. Cut parallel to the C-axis, the slice reveals the colorful interior of what would have otherwise appeared to be a dark crystal. Dark rind followed by a thin yellow zone, then bright pink surrounding a transparent red central zone. Well polished on both sides, weighs 8.71 grams.
