Ruby in Zoisite

Deep red, hexagonal Ruby crystal surrounded by green Zoisite. This specimen is exceptional for the sharp hexagonal form of the Ruby crystal, which is 6.5cm in diameter. On most of these, either because of the way the rock breaks or the shape of the Ruby crystals themselves, the rubies are more amorphous-looking without the hexagonal shape. The Zoisite has a bright lime green coloration with an additional large Ruby present on the back side. This is a big heavy piece that could be sliced up into multiple slabs on polished, but I like the natural look of this one. Ex. John Dabney collection.
