Crystallized Gold in Quartz from the Reed Mine in North Carolina. The Reed Mine was the site of the first documented Gold find in the United States when in 1779, 12-year-old Conrad Reed discovered a 17-pound gold nugget in Little Meadow Creek. Conrad's father John Reed later found a 28 pound Gold nugget. After the placer Gold was exhausted, the mine was advanced underground. This specimen was recovered during the underground workings. It's a rich and showy Gold specimen and an interesting piece of history as well as a hard to find Gold locality specimen.
